PV system on the roof: Bellevue relies on solar energy
- MICE news
"Saving energy has been part of the daily business at our hotel for years," says General Manager Sebastian Klink. "Due to the increased energy costs, it is necessary to introduce special measures." For this reason, the Bilderberg Bellevue Hotel Dresden is having a PV system installed by Dresden-based Solarwatt GmbH in 2023.
Big demand and at the same time the best conditions
In a hotel of this size, the consumption and need for energy-saving measures is immense. The annual electricity demand totals 1,700,000 kWh. "By far the biggest energy consumers in the building are the lifts, the hot air ovens in the kitchen and the air conditioning. In the future, we will be able to feed a significant part of the energy here via the photovoltaic system. According to calculations, more than 94 percent of the solar power generated is consumed directly in the hotel," says Sebastian Klink, General Manager of the Bilderberg Bellevue Hotel. He commissioned the Dresden-based company Solarwatt with the complete package from visualisation, return-on-investment calculation, production & installation of the solar panels up to feeding into the grid. "The PV system is a very sensible decision, because it allows us to cushion some of the additional costs we incur, which then also has a positive effect on our guests," says Klink.
Sven Böhm also confirms this. He has been Chief Financial Officer at Solarwatt since 2018 and is proud to count the Bellevue as the first hotel among the Solarwatt customers. "In addition to a high demand, the hotel also brings the best conditions for the installation of solar panels at the same time. Many hotels are tall, but the Bellevue is wide. This gives us an immense area on the roofs." The entire area of the flat roofs on the east and west wings will be used. However, before the PV system can be installed in spring 2023, the renovation of the flat roofs with new insulation is first on the agenda.
Important part of the sustainability initiative
With the installation of the PV system, another piece of the puzzle fits into the overall picture of Bellevue's sustainability initiative. "In addition to small but nevertheless significant measures such as rubbish bin inserts or the conversion of our light bulbs to LED, we are also committed to being ambassadors for the topic of e-mobility. For this, we are working together with Volkswagen's Transparent Factory," emphasises General Manager Klink. With Solarwatt, another beacon partnership is added.
Green certification and award
Since last year, the Dresden hotel has also officially underpinned its status as a sustainable and forward-looking hotel. On 21 January 2021, the Bilderberg Bellevue Hotel Dresden was awarded the "Certified Green Hotel" certificate by the independent testing institute Certified. With this certificate, hotels demonstrate their responsible and sustainable use of resources. "The team shows great commitment and is characterised by a high level of loyalty. As the largest city centre hotel with a diverse range of offers and an exceptional location, the Bilderberg Bellevue Hotel Dresden also has the perfect prerequisites to position itself for the future and to meet emerging trends," says Till Runte, Managing Director of the Certified testing institute. The commitment and constant further development caught the eye of customers and guests, as the Bellevue Hotel won the CERTIFIED STAR-AWARD 2021 in the category "Green Hotel".
In addition, the hotel mastered the recently conducted surveillance audit with a very good increase in results. The newly issued seal of approval is valid until December 2023.
